Device Management

Learn how to register, manage, and monitor your digital screens (devices) in Synq Digital.

Overview

The Devices page (also called "Screens") allows you to:

  • Register new digital screens
  • Monitor device status and health
  • Configure device settings
  • Assign playlists to devices
  • View device details and screenshots
  • Manage device locations

Accessing Devices

Navigate to Devices from the sidebar menu to view all registered screens.

Device List View

Device Table Columns

The device table displays:

  • Status: Online (green), Offline (red), or Pending (yellow)
  • Screen Name: Custom name assigned to the device
  • Version: Player software version
  • Playlist: Currently assigned playlist
  • Location: Physical location of the device
  • Model: Device hardware model
  • Last Seen: Last communication timestamp
  • Actions: Menu for device operations

Filtering Devices

Filter your device list:

  1. Use the Search box to find devices by name, serial, or location
  2. Use the Status dropdown to filter by:
    • All Status
    • Online
    • Offline
    • Pending

Registering a New Device

To add a new digital screen to your network:

  1. Click the "Register" button (top-right)
  2. In the registration dialog:
    • Enter the 6-digit Device ID (found on the device or provided by manufacturer)
    • Enter a Device Name (descriptive name for easy identification)
    • Select a Location from the dropdown
  3. Click "Register"

Device ID Requirements

  • Must be exactly 6 characters
  • Usually alphanumeric
  • Found on the device label or in device settings
  • Contact your administrator if you don't have the Device ID

Naming Best Practices

Use clear, descriptive names:

  • Good: "Lobby Display - Main Entrance"
  • Good: "Conference Room A - 2nd Floor"
  • Avoid: "Device1", "Screen", "Test"

Viewing Device Details

To view detailed information about a device:

  1. Click on a device row, or
  2. Click the Actions menu (three dots) → "View Details"

Device Details Page

The device details page shows:

  • Basic Information: Name, location, playlist
  • Configuration: Orientation, operating hours, reboot schedule
  • System Info: Version, heartbeat interval
  • Screenshots: Recent screenshots from the device
  • Edit Options: Modify device settings

Editing Device Settings

From the device details page:

  1. Modify any field (name, location, playlist, etc.)
  2. Configure operating hours (when device should be active)
  3. Set orientation (Landscape or Portrait)
  4. Configure automatic reboot schedule
  5. Adjust heartbeat interval
  6. Click "Save Changes"

Device Screenshots

View recent screenshots from the device:

  1. Scroll to the Screenshots section
  2. Click "Reload" to fetch the latest screenshots
  3. View thumbnails with timestamps
  4. Click on a screenshot to view full size

Device Status

Understanding Status Indicators

  • 🟢 Online (Green): Device is connected and responding
  • 🔴 Offline (Red): Device is not responding or disconnected
  • 🟡 Pending (Yellow): Device registered but not yet activated

Checking Device Health

Monitor device health by:

  • Checking Last Seen timestamp (should be recent)
  • Viewing device status indicator
  • Reviewing screenshots for visual confirmation
  • Checking heartbeat interval settings

Assigning Playlists to Devices

To assign a playlist to a device:

Method 1: From Device Details

  1. Open device details page
  2. Find the Playlist dropdown
  3. Select a playlist from the list
  4. Click "Save Changes"

Method 2: From Devices List

  1. Click the Actions menu for a device
  2. Select "Edit"
  3. Choose playlist from dropdown
  4. Save changes

Device Actions Menu

Access device actions via the three-dot menu:

  • View Details: Open full device information page
  • Edit: Quick edit of device settings
  • Delete: Remove device from system (admin only)

Troubleshooting Devices

Device Shows as Offline

If a device appears offline:

  1. Check Physical Connection: Ensure device is powered on and connected to network
  2. Verify Network: Check internet connectivity
  3. Check Device ID: Confirm correct Device ID was used during registration
  4. Review Last Seen: Check when device was last online
  5. Contact Support: If issues persist, contact your administrator

Device Not Displaying Content

If content isn't showing:

  1. Check Playlist Assignment: Ensure a playlist is assigned
  2. Verify Playlist Content: Confirm playlist has media files
  3. Check Schedule: Verify any schedules are active
  4. Review Operating Hours: Ensure device is within operating hours
  5. View Screenshots: Check device screenshots for visual confirmation

Device Registration Failed

If registration fails:

  • Verify Device ID is exactly 6 characters
  • Ensure Device ID hasn't been used before
  • Check that location exists
  • Contact administrator if Device ID is invalid

Device Configuration Best Practices

Operating Hours

Set operating hours to match your business needs:

  • Business Hours: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
  • 24/7: Leave blank or set to full day
  • Custom: Match specific location hours

Reboot Schedule

Configure automatic reboots:

  • Weekly Reboot: Recommended for stability
  • Off-Peak Hours: Schedule during low-traffic times
  • Sunday Night: Common choice (e.g., Sunday 2:00 AM)

Heartbeat Interval

  • Default: 60 seconds
  • Lower: More frequent status updates (30 seconds)
  • Higher: Less network traffic (120 seconds)

Bulk Operations

For managing multiple devices:

  • Use filters to select device groups
  • Export device list (if available)
  • Bulk assign playlists (if available)
  • Generate device reports
